This project was conceived long ago, and has been made possible by the generosity of the Terra Incognita & Footpaths Foundation, both under the direction of Derick Heizer. We are 100% privately funded, and all of the folks working at this initiative do so on a completely volunteer basis.|
Our mission and goal is to provide a situation where writers and artists can spend from one week to one year surrounded by simple beauty, the abundance of nature, and sometimes the company of others in the process of creating.
Our hope is that the tranquility offered by the Azores Islands will inspire and cultivate in our residents a clarity of purpose and renewed passion for their soul's work.
Our program currently consists of one house located on a hillside at the outskirts of a village on the southern shore. Sometimes there are also satellite peasant houses where our residents may go for solitude and rough work space. One of these locations is an oceanfront cottage in a remote shore, without even electricity on S. Jorge island.
The love of ART, passion for books, reading, writing, and this Residency initiative were partially inspired by a life long island resident, with a passionate and infectious artistic spirit.
